The Asian Games is a multi-sport event that takes place every four years among athletes from all over Asia. It is the second largest continental multi-sport event, following the Olympics. It is held by the Olympic Council of Asia and is a unique platform for international exchange and cultural connection. The 2026 edition is set to be hosted by Japan’s Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya City, marking the third time the nation has served as host.
Taking place from September 19 to October 4, the Games will feature 40 sports and 15,000 athletes and team officials. The slogan for the games is “Imagine One Asia”, a phrase that has been adopted to highlight the games’ commitment to embracing the diversity of Asia and its rich culture.
With a variety of venues throughout the city and prefecture, it’s hoped that the Asian Games will be a global event, attracting visitors from across the globe. Additionally, the organizers hope to boost local businesses and leave a lasting legacy of improved infrastructure and increased tourism.
Aichi-Nagoya Organizing Committee President Hiroshi Yamamoto says that they have been working on various efforts to promote the Games, including the development of sports facilities and a program that showcases the best of Nagoya city and Aichi Prefecture. In addition, they are also aiming to use the Asian Games as a venue to demonstrate new technologies and innovations in a range of fields, including sports management, communication, and hospitality.
