World Series Highlights

The World Series is one of baseball’s most storied events. It’s full of high-scoring games, nailbiting turns of events, and legendary moments. Here are a few of the most memorable World Series highlights from the past five decades.

The 1988 World Series is probably the best known for Kirk Gibson’s walk-off homer with two outs in the ninth inning of Game 1. This year’s World Series also features a dramatic, late-inning rally that took down the mighty Yankees.

With the score tied 6-6 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Red Sox slugger Bernie Carbo came to bat against Dodgers starter Jack Flaherty. The ball looked like it was headed foul, but Carlton Fisk waved his arms towards fair territory. That’s when the ball did what it did best – flew straight into the stands for a two-run home run, tying the game 7-6 and sending the World Series to a seventh and deciding Game.

The most recent highlight of this year’s World Series involved the Dodgers’ phenom Shohei Ohtani. After signing with the MLB in 2018, Ohtani proved himself as both a pitcher and hitter, earning the league’s MVP award. But he was missing one thing: a World Series ring. The clinching Game 6 win over the Red Sox ended that drought, and solidified Ohtani as the most talked-about player in baseball. The World Series is unique in that it brings together some of the highest-skilled players in professional baseball from all over the globe. This gives the event a distinctive flavor that’s hard to replicate anywhere else.
