US sprinter Melissa Jefferson-Wooden became the second woman to win a sprint treble at the World Athletics Championship, adding gold in the 100m and 200m to her previous triumph in the 400m. The 37-year-old was also part of the victorious US women’s 4x100m relay team that finished ahead of Jamaica.

The last day of competition was a day of thrilling finishes with one new championship record and another seven equalled. Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers claimed her first world outdoor high jump gold as she cleared 2.00m for a PB to beat Poland’s Maria Zodzik, who could only clear 1.97m and had to settle for silver on countback.

The men’s 3000m steeplechase was a close race with Geordie Beamish of New Zealand coming in just behind the lead pack at the finish line, but unleashing his signature devastating kick to take gold over Amanal Petros (Germany) and Illiass Aouani (Italy). Leo Neugebauer secured the decathlon title after a competition full of twists and turns, Daniel Stahl became a three-time discus champion and Lilian Odira made her debut on the global stage by winning the 800m.
